What Are Prescription Glasses?

You have to see your optometrist or ophthalmologist to receive a prescription for glasses. When you are told you need a prescription, the doctor is saying that you need lenses that provide extra power to your eyes to correct your near sidedness or far sidedness. This may be for reading or a more critical rational such as driving.

Choosing Your Frame

How do you know you’re choosing the right frame for your face?

Round Face
If you have a rounder face, we recommend going with a frame that is square or rectangular. These frames will make your face appear slimmer and longer. This results in the appearance of a more balanced face. Having said that, we recommend avoiding rimless or rounded frames. These frames will make your face appear heavily rounded and create an exaggerated look that you may want to avoid.

Oval Face
For those who have an oval-shaped face, you’ll want to go with glasses that are wider and feature a wider bridge. This results in more balanced proportions. We recommend avoiding frames that cover a majority of your face. This will make the appearance of the frame feel more unnatural and unsymmetrical.

Square Face
When you know you have a defined square face, we recommend that you go with a more circular frame that helps to provide a softer appearance. That means you should avoid any rectangular or square shaped frames that sharpen the look of your facial features.

Choosing Your Color

When choosing the correct color glasses, you want to keep in mind your skin tone. If you have a warmer skin tone, you’ll want to go with a yellow, bronze, or even gold color. On the other hand, if you have a cooler skin tone, we recommend going with a pink or blue undertone.

Choosing Your Lens

We recommend consulting with your doctor to get the exact prescription your eyes need to optimize clarity. The type of lens we most commonly recommend are polycarbonate lenses.

Anti-Reflective Coating

Reduces light reflections up to 99.5% which allows more light to enter through the lens for more clarity.

Anti-Scratch Coating

An extra layer of protective hard coating to help reduce scratches.

100% UV Protected

Protects your eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

See why materials matter.

All of our custom prescription sunglasses, gaming glasses, and general eyewear feature anti-reflective coating, anti-scratch layers, and 100% UV protectant for computers. However, beyond that, we take into consideration the specific material of our lenses. Polycarbonate lenses are recommended to provide the most optimal impact on your vision, and our high index 1.67 lenses are recommended for stronger prescriptions. Below you’ll be able to see the difference.

Polycarbonate lenses are up to 10x stronger than standard lenses and are the most impact-resistant lenses on the market.

Thinner is better.

High Index 1.67

High Index 1.67 lenses are recommended for strong prescriptions that are +/-4.00 or higher and are up to 40% thinner than Polycarbonate lenses. This will help reduce the "Coke Bottle" effect.

Both lenses represent a -4.00 prescription
