All the Big Reveals at Sony’s PS5 Event

Given the current circumstances in the world, many of the major gaming events such as E3 were canceled to make way for digital events. One of the biggest events just took place recently with Sony’s Future of Gaming Event, which showcased all of the new games coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. Discover all the big reveals at Sony’s Big PS5 event below.

First Look at the Console

Perhaps the biggest reveal at Sony’s PlayStation 5 event was the first look at the PlayStation 5 console itself. Previously, all we had seen was the PS5’s white controller. At the end of the event, the full console was revealed for the first time, which sports a slick, white and black look that bears a resemblance to a CD holder from the early ‘2000s. PlayStation 5 will also have two versions when it launches during the holiday season later this year, as well as the standard edition that takes physical copies of games along with the digital edition. Now that the console’s price was revealed, we also know the following specifications:

  • CPU: AMD Zen 2-based CPU with 8 cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
  • GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)
  • GPU architecture: Custom RDNA 2
  • Memory (Ram): 16GB GDDR6 / 256-bit
  • Memory bandwidth: 448GB/s.
  • Internal storage: Custom 825GB SSD
  • Expandable storage: MVMe SSD slot
  • Optical drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive

New PlayStation 5 Titles Announced

In addition to the reveal of the full PlayStation 5 console, a ton of next-generation games were also announced. Here are some of the event’s biggest game announcements.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Marvel’s Spider-Man was a huge hit and a PlayStation 4 exclusive, and it was presumed that Insomniac was already working on the game’s sequel. What many people didn’t realize that we would get it so soon and that it would focus on Miles Morales who was introduced in the first game. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will arrive later this year with the launch of PlayStation 5, and while some thought it was just a DLC, Insomniac has come out and said that it will be a standalone game.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Another major game announcement that came from Insomniac was Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart. The main reason why the Spider-Man: Miles Morales announcement was such as surprise was because we knew the video game studio was working on the new Rachet & Clank game. At the PlayStation 5 event, we got our first look at some stunning gameplay of Rachet and Clank making their way through a futuristic city and facing off against various alien creatures.

Resident Evil Village

The PlayStation 5 event also revealed the next installment in the Resident Evil franchise. The eerie trailer revealed that the upcoming game will be first-person just like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Resident Evil Village will arrive on the PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021.

Hitman 3

It was also announced that the final Hitman game in the rebooted World of Assassination trilogy is coming to the PlayStation 5 in January 2021. The upcoming game from IO Interactive will also arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.

Horizon Forbidden West

Many have anticipated the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and it was finally announced at the Future of Gaming event. A cinematic trailer for Horizon Forbidden West offered a look at some amazing environments and Aloy traveling with a robot character in a blended sci-fi and fantasy adventure.

Grand Theft Auto V

While Grand Theft Auto V was already released for the PlayStation 4 back in 2013, the game will be getting a re-release for the PlayStation 5 with enhanced features and expansions. Grand Theft Auto V will arrive sometime in 2021, and it was also announced that PS5 users will also be able to play GTA live for free.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Shinji Mikami and Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo was first revealed at last year’s E3, but the Future of Gaming event unveiled more from the first-person game for the PlayStation 5. Ghostwire: Tokyo is currently scheduled for a 2021 release.

Project Athia

A brand-new game from Square Enix and Luminous Productions also debuted at the PlayStation 5 event. The game is currently going by the working title Project Athia. There’s currently no release date for this game, but the footage teased a female protagonist using magic in a mystical world.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo continues to be the ultimate racing game, and Sony’s PS5 event showed the first footage from the latest title in the series. No release date was given, but the game looks incredible and as realistic as ever in the upcoming game’s first trailer.

NBA 2K21

NBA 2K21 is another sports video game that looks better than ever before with next-generation graphics. The brief trailer featured New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson who is presumably going to be on the cover of the game coming this fall. However, some believe that NBA legend Kobe Bryant might grace the cover due to his tragic death earlier this year.

Stray

Sony’s PlayStation 5 event also showcased a game called Stray from Annapurna Interactive. The first look at Stray was brief, but it appears the game takes place in a futuristic setting where you play as a cat with an adorable little backpack in a landscape surrounded by robots. Not much else is known about the game which will be released sometime in 2021.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

The next title in the LittleBigPlanet franchise called Sackboy: A Big Adventure was also unveiled. This time around, the game will feature 3D platforming as opposed to  2D in the previous games. Sackboy: A Big Adventure does not currently have a release date, but it’s definitely coming to the PlayStation 5.

Those were all the big reveals at Sony’s PS5 event, but there will be plenty of more announcements throughout the summer as we near the launch of the next-generation consoles at the end of the year. With all of these games coming out and looking better than ever before, it’s important to enjoy them without experiencing fatigue. Get glasses for playing video games from Glassy Eyewear and avoid any fatigue that can come from blue light before you get your hands on the new PlayStation 5.
